September 3, 2020 The University of Dar es salaam and Empower Limited have announced an official partnership aligned to the Tanzania economic transformation agenda and investment in human development. The partnership will enhance synergy between Academic Institutions and the Corporate world, through effective coordination and implementation of a 21st century Skills Development Programme across all UDSM departments and colleges over the next 5 years called Generation Empower (GenEm)

Speaking at the official launch of GenEm, the University of Dar es salaam’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) Professor Bernadeta Killian said that ‘The University of Dar es Salaam is excited to partner with Empower for maximum impact in imparting 21st Century skills to 250 of our finest students. With their expertise in talent management and their extensive network of corporate clients; we urge all companies to play their part in supporting Generation Empower - the first cohort will be ready to hire in June 2021.’

Founder and Managing Director of Empower Limited Miranda Naiman said ‘Our work with Tanzanian Youth over the last 11 years has culminated in this partnership; we are delighted to bring together all stakeholders to build our nation by investing in our future leaders. GenEm will work in tandem with UDSM’s academic programmes to arm finalist students with relevant skills, industry exposure and connection to employment as they graduate. She went on to say ‘Corporates can benefit from the very best graduate talent who will seamlessly add value to your organisation.’

GenEm is being facilitated by Empower’s Youth Department in collaboration with The University of Dar es Salaam’s Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (UDIEC), who strive to be the leading centre in Africa for enabling Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The first cohort will comprise of 250 students from varying disciplines in the year-long GenEm Programme; allowing for a diverse and inclusive strategy for sustainable skills development. Empower’s approach to learning and development is participatory and practical in nature – GenEm participants will take part in interactive workshops, tutorials, fireside chats with industry leaders, culminating in a final group project.

UDSM and Empower welcome participation in GenEm from all stakeholders including the private sector, policymakers and donor partners to catalyse efforts towards providing skills development through a public private partnership (PPP) model. This will be the first programme launched in Tanzania with this unique approach; aligning educational content of The University of Dar es salaam to industry requirements through customized modules developed and facilitated by Empower and validated by the University of Dar es Salaam.

Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es salaam na taasisi ya Empower Limited, wametangaza ushirikiano rasmi unaoendana na ajenda ya mabadiliko ya uchumi wa Tanzania kwa kufanya uwekezaji katika kuwapatia watu maarifa. Ushirikiano huo utawezesha taasisi za elimu, makampuni ya kibiashara kushirikiana kupitia uratibu mzuri na utekelezaji wa mpango wa kutoa ujuzi unaotakiwa katika karne ya 21 ujulikanao kama Generation Empower (GenEm) katika shule zote za UDSM kwa kipindi cha miaka 5 ijayo.

Akizungumza wakati wa uzinduzi rasmi wa GenEm, Makamu wa Mkuu wa Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es salaam (Utafiti) Profesa Bernadeta Killian, alisema “Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam kinafurahi kushirikiana na Empower kuleta mabadiliko chanya yanayowezesha kuwapatia ujuzi wa karne ya 21 wanafunzi 250 sambamba na maarifa ya kusimamia vipaji vyao, kuchangamana na wateja wa makampuni ya kibiashara.Tunatoa wito kwa makampuni kuunga mkono programu hii ya Generation Empower-Wahitimu wake wa awamu ya kwanza watakuwa tayari kwa ajili ya kuingia katika soko la ajira ifikapo mwezi Juni mwaka wa 2021”,

Mwanzilishi na Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Empower Limited Miranda Naiman alisema “Kazi yetu kwa vijana wa Kitanzania katika kipindi cha miaka 11 iliyopita imehitimishwa na ushirikiano huu; tumefurahi kuleta pamoja wadau wote ili kujenga taifa letu kwa kuwekeza kwa viongozi wetu wa baadaye. GenEm itafanya kazi sanjari na mipango ya kitaaluma ya UDSM kuwapa wanafunzi watakaofanikiwa kupitia katika programu hii ujuzi unaotakiwa kwa sasa, kuweza kupata maarifa zaidi ya taaluma zao na kuunganishwa katika fursa za ajira pindi wanapohitimu”. Aliendelea kusema 'Makampuni yanaweza kufaidika na wahitimu hawa wenye ujuzi mkubwa na vipaji ambao wanaweza kusaidia kusaidia kuongeza thamani katika shughuli zake kutokana na kufanya kazi kwa ufanisi na kuwa wabunifu.

GenEm inawezeshwa na Idara ya uwezeshaji Vijana kwa kushirikiana na kitengo cha Ubunifu na Ujasiriamali cha Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam (UDIEC), ambacho

kimejipanga kuhakikisha kinaongoza barani Afrika kwa kutoa mafunzo ya ujasiariamali na ubunifu.
Awamu ya kwanza ya mafunzo ya programu ya GenEm itajumuisha wanafunzi 250 kutoka fani tofauti za taaluma na yatachukua mwaka mzima ili kufanikisha mkakati wa kuwanoa walengwa kuhakikisha wanapata ujuzi unaotakiwa.
Mafunzo ya programu ya GenEm yataendeshwa kwa njia shirikishi na kwa vitendo zaidi ,watashiriki katika semina za kubadilishana mawazo, mafunzo kutoka kwa wataalamu, kupata mada kutoka kwa viongozi wa tasnia mbalimbali na mwisho washiriki kufanya miradi ya vikundi kuhusiana na mafunzo waliyopatiwa.
UDSM na Empower wanakaribisha wadau wote kushiriki katika GenEm ikiwemo sekta binafsi, watunga sera na washirika wahisani ili kufanikisha jitihada za kutoa kuendeleza ujuzi kupitia mpango wa ubia taasisi za umma na binafsi (PPP). Programu hii ni ya kwanza kuanzishwa nchini na kuendeshwa kwa njia ya kipekee ambapo maudhui ya mafunzo yanayotolewa yanasimamiwa na Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam kuhakikisha yanakidhi viwango vinavyotakiwa kwa kila tasnia na Empower inapoyatayarisha inahakikisha yanathibitishwa na Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam.
