Summary

The Technician: Baggage handling systems is responsible for implementing the maintenance policy defined by the Technical Director and ensuring compliance, availability and optimal operation of Mechanical systems

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems and components within terminal buildings in accordance with approved manuals, procedures, and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of all mechanical equipment in passenger terminal facilities to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Identify, prepare, and ensure availability of required tools, equipment, and PPE prior to inspections, maintenance activities, and emergency interventions.
  • Execute maintenance tasks in full compliance with safety standards, airport regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure continuous availability and readiness of tools and PPE during inspections and maintenance operations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation by preparing daily maintenance logs, inspection reports, and activity records.
  • Submit all maintenance reports and documentation to the Assistant Engineer within the required timelines as per maintenance schedules.
  • Raise timely requests for spare parts and materials, ensuring proper justification and approval from the Assistant Engineer before use.
  • Ensure consistency and continuity of all assigned maintenance activities, completing tasks within planned schedules.
  • Immediately escalate major technical faults or risks that may impact airport operations and business continuity to the Engineer and Head of Department (HOD).
  • Ensure strict implementation of all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements during all maintenance activities.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding progress, challenges, and completion status of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Propose improvements to maintenance checklists, inspection forms, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and system reliability.

 

Education and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Vocational education and training certificate in Mechanical Studies.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in maintenance of electrical and electronics systems, ideally in an airport environment
  • Proficiency in Swahili

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional training in mechanical systems, baggage handling systems, or airport equipment is an added advantage
  • Certification or training in mechanical systems or baggage handling systems maintenance from recognized institutions or equipment manufacturers is an added advantage
  • Experience in airport mechanical systems or baggage handling systems is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in English is an added advantage
