Summary

The Technician: Power Systems (Substation) is responsible for operating and supporting the maintenance of electrical substations to ensure a reliable, safe, and continuous power supply to airport operations

Responsibilities

 

  • Operate electrical substations, including monitoring equipment, performing switching operations, and ensuring stable and continuous power distribution.
  • Monitor transformers, switchgear, control panels, and protection systems to ensure proper and reliable functioning.
  • Conduct routine inspections of substation equipment to identify faults, wear, abnormal conditions, or potential failures.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and assist in repairs of substation equipment in accordance with maintenance plans and procedures.
  • Execute switching operations and isolation procedures strictly in line with safety protocols, operational instructions, and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Identify electrical faults, abnormalities, or system failures and report them promptly to engineers or supervisors.
  • Support rapid response to power failures and assist in restoring electrical supply to critical airport systems and operations.
  • Execute assigned maintenance and operational tasks in accordance with CMMS schedules and work instructions.
  • Follow all electrical safety procedures, use appropriate PPE, and comply with safety regulations at all times.
  • Record operational data, maintenance activities, and incidents accurately, clearly, and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to ensure uninterrupted power supply and safe substation operations.

 

Education and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Vocational training or diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical systems, power distribution, or substation operations
  • Proficiency in Swahili

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering is an added advantage
  • Certification in electrical safety or high-voltage operations is an added advantage
  • Experience in airport, utility, or industrial power systems is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in English is an added advantage
