Summary

A well-established gym and wellness facility is seeking two friendly, skilled and service-oriented Baristas to prepare and serve high-quality beverages and refreshments while providing an excellent customer experience.

The successful candidates will work in a fast-paced, health-conscious environment and should be confident preparing coffee, smoothies, protein shakes, juices and other beverages.

Responsibilities

Beverage and Food Preparation

  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, smoothies, protein shakes, fresh juices and other beverages according to approved recipes and quality standards.
  • Prepare and serve light meals, snacks and other available items where required.
  • Ensure consistent taste, presentation and portion sizes.
  • Confirm customer orders and accommodate reasonable dietary requests or preferences.
  • Handle food, ingredients and equipment safely and hygienically.
  • Ensure products are properly labelled, stored and used within the required timelines.
  • Monitor preparation time and ensure orders are served promptly.

Customer Service

  • Welcome customers warmly and provide friendly, professional service.
  • Explain available beverages, ingredients, sizes, prices and nutritional options.
  • Recommend suitable products based on customer preferences.
  • Receive orders accurately and confirm any special requests.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to customer concerns.
  • Escalate unresolved complaints or service issues to the Gym Manager.
  • Build positive relationships with regular customers and gym members.

Sales and Cash Handling

  • Process cash, card, mobile and other approved payments accurately.
  • Issue receipts and correctly record all transactions in the point-of-sale system.
  • Maintain accountability for cash and transaction records during the assigned shift.
  • Complete daily cash reconciliation and handover procedures.
  • Promote beverages, refreshments, special offers and new menu items.
  • Suggest additional products where appropriate without placing unnecessary pressure on customers.
  • Immediately report payment discrepancies or system errors to the Gym Manager.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

  • Keep the counter, preparation area, equipment, utensils and customer-service areas clean and organised.
  • Clean coffee machines, blenders, refrigerators and other equipment according to established procedures.
  • Follow food-safety, personal-hygiene and sanitation requirements at all times.
  • Dispose of waste correctly and maintain clean waste-management areas.
  • Monitor the condition of food and beverage items and remove any expired, damaged or unsuitable products.
  • Report pest-control, plumbing, electrical or equipment concerns promptly.

Stock and Inventory Management

  • Monitor daily stock levels for coffee, milk, fruits, protein products, cups, packaging and other supplies.
  • Record stock received, used, wasted or transferred.
  • Inform the Gym Manager when stock reaches the required reorder level.
  • Receive deliveries and confirm that the correct items and quantities have been supplied.
  • Store products correctly and rotate stock using the first-expiry, first-out principle.
  • Minimise unnecessary waste, over-portioning and product loss.
  • Participate in routine stock counts and help investigate any differences.

Operational Support

  • Prepare the workstation before opening and ensure it is properly closed and secured after the shift.
  • Maintain accurate cleaning, stock, temperature and cash records.
  • Coordinate with Front Desk Officers and Gym Managers when handling member requests, promotions or events.
  • Support gym tournaments, community activities, open days and other events requiring food and beverage services.
  • Inform management of popular products, customer preferences and potential menu improvements.
  • Follow all workplace health, safety and emergency procedures.

Education and Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A certificate or relevant training in barista skills, hospitality, food and beverage service, catering or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a barista or in a café, restaurant, hotel, juice bar or similar customer-service environment.
  • Practical knowledge of coffee and beverage preparation.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene, safe storage and cleanliness requirements.
  • Experience handling cash, electronic payments or point-of-sale systems.
  • Basic numerical and record-keeping skills.
  • Good communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.

Requirements

The following will be an added advantage:

  • Experience preparing smoothies, protein shakes, fresh juices and health-focused beverages.
  • Experience working in a gym, wellness facility, health café or sports environment.
  • Knowledge of common dietary preferences and requirements.
  • Experience managing stock, receiving supplies and completing daily reconciliations.
  • A recognised food-handling or hygiene certificate.
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition and fitness-related products.
