As the youngest generation enters the workforce, they are bringing with them new perspectives and expectations for the corporate world. The generation of young people born between 1995 and 2010 known as Gen Z ( Zoomers), is changing the norms of work in significant ways. It is estimated that more than 3 billion people are Genzers, and more than 50% are from Africa.

Let’s explore how zoomers are making changes in corporate space in Africa.

One major change being brought about by Gen Z is a shift towards more flexible and remote working arrangements. This generation has grown up with technology at their fingertips and is accustomed to working and communicating digitally. As a result, they are pushing for more opportunities to work remotely and outside of traditional office hours. This not only allows for a better work-life balance but also opens up opportunities for companies to tap into a wider pool of talent, regardless of location.

Another change being driven by Gen Z is a focus on social and environmental responsibility. This generation is more conscious of the impact their work has on the world around them and is looking for employers who share their values. They want to work for companies that are making a positive impact on society and the environment. This shift is leading to a greater emphasis on sustainability and corporate social responsibility in the African corporate space.

Gen Z is also changing the way we think about career development and job security. They are more interested in learning and growth opportunities than in long-term job security. This is leading to a shift away from traditional career paths and towards more diverse and flexible career paths. Companies are beginning to recognize this and are offering more opportunities for employees to learn new skills and take on new roles.

Finally, Gen Z is changing the way we think about leadership and management. They are looking for leaders who are authentic, transparent, and willing to listen. They want to work for leaders who are approachable and willing to mentor and guide them. This is leading to a more collaborative and open leadership style in the African corporate space.

In conclusion, Gen Z is bringing a new wave of change to the African corporate space. They are changing the way we think about work, leadership, and corporate responsibility. Companies that are able to adapt to these changes will be better positioned to attract and retain top talent. It's time for the corporate world in Africa to take notice and embrace the changes that Gen Z is bringing.
