EVERY GREAT DREAM BEGINS WITH A DREAMER

The first time I stepped into a Bank was with my Mother. We had gone to clear my Primary school fees. I wondered who were those people dressed uniformly sitting behind the Bank desks. They appeared so smart and wore beautiful smiles. They provided us nothing but excellent service in a comfortable and a pleasant atmosphere. At some point I didn't feel like leaving the premise. Every staff was so kind to us.

My Journey in University gave me an opportunity to have a practical training in any of the recognized institutions in the country. I was curious and interested to work with the people I saw at banks. I took a shot to apply and won the target on one of the banks in Tanzania. I worked there for three months and lived best to have a wonderful customer experience. I loved the banking culture from there. I promised myself to take another shot when available to experience a similar path. I wanted to do this again!

On one of the Oprah Winfrey’s show, she motivated people saying “ The only courage anybody ever needs is the courage to follow your own dreams.” My dream was to be one among the bankers in the country, I loved the profession and how it transformed lives of other people. I followed my dream and did my best to apply for internship positions in banks after my undergraduate degree. I got an opportunity to serve in one of the banks and continued to live and explore my dream.

Have you ever been so passionate about something that your closed ones notice? Yes, that is me and the banking industry. In two or more sentences in a story I would chip in one of my experiences in the banking world. I lived to accept that this is the culture in my veins. On a Friday morning, My cousin shared a file with me. It was a job application that read “Absa Leaders in the making program”. With few words he said, “This is your opportunity”

Yes! That was my opportunity. I smiled all along as I read the job description. What a fortunate opportunity for anyone who had dreams in the banking world. The description was clear enough and stated how selected candidates would benefit from the program to prepare them become future leaders for the bank. I applied for this position and underwent a series of interviews and assessments till I secured a chance for the program. At all stages, I gave it my all. The determination I had in securing this opportunity pushed me to the edge.

Today, I am one of the selected Leaders In the Making candidates at Absa. With this Program, I am looking forward to understand and learn the Absa culture and banking operations together with learning different skills to prepare me become an asset for the bank and acquire leadership position(s) in the bank.

I love adventures and the biggest adventure you can take, is to live the life of your dreams. Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true!
