Success in your career isn’t just about talent or luck—it’s about how you approach challenges, growth, and opportunities. If you want to reach your highest potential, you need to keep yourself focused, motivated, and resilient. Here is a philosophy I came across and thought to share. It is the BEST framework:
B - Balance
The first step to a thriving career doesn’t come from overworking yourself into exhaustion—I’ve learned that the hard way. Between chasing career goals, thriving to be the best wife, mother, daughter, sister or friend, managing my personal need for a hot summer body (that I seem never to attain now three consecutive years), completing my list of must read books of the year in order to attain my ambitions for constant learning, re-learning and unlearning. Trust me, balance isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
My take away and word for wisdom is, prioritize your time wisely, set boundaries, and ensure your career fuels your life, not consumes it.
E - Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is the excitement that makes you stand out, attract opportunities, and inspire the people around you. It is a game change if you don’t want to merely exist in whatever role you have landed. When you genuinely care about your work, it reflects in your results, your interactions with colleagues, and the way clients respond to you.
When you enjoy what you do, you are better prepared for the challenges you face. There may be no substitute for hard work but there is value in projecting a positive attitude towards things because it is said, positive people achieve positive results anyway, right?
Being human however—sometimes, we lose that spark. If you ever feel like you’re just clocking in and out, take a step back and ask yourself: What excites me? What part of my job makes me feel alive? Find that, lean into it, and let your enthusiasm fuel your success.
Personally taking a step back often means getting lost in a good book—immersing myself in someone else’s thoughts, experiences, or adventures. It gives me the clarity to reconnect with my WHY I am committed to what I do. However, for others, a step back, might be a heartfelt conversation with a colleague, a quiet walk on the beach, or simply soaking in the beauty of a garden. Some may need an entire week off, while in certain cases, stepping back might mean stepping away entirely, taking a break to find what other thing works (may not apply if you have weighty responsibilities and dependencies carried on your shoulders and no Plan B in sight).
What about you? What does taking a step back look like in your world?
S - Single-Mindedness
Distractions and doubts can derail even the most talented professionals. Being single-minded in this case, I mean staying focused on your goals despite obstacles, setbacks, or external noise. It’s about knowing what you want and committing to it with full force. The most successful individuals aren’t those who try everything—they are the ones who identify their mission and pursue it relentlessly.
T - Tenacity
Every great career story includes moments of failure, rejection, and hardship. What separates winners from quitters is tenacity—the ability to keep going, no matter what. Challenges are inevitable, but those who persevere develop resilience, gain experience, and eventually break through barriers. Keep learning, keep adapting, and never give up on your aspirations.
