GIS and hydraulics expert
Summary
As a GIS and Hydraulics Expert, you will be part of the Water Operator Partnership (WOP) project team in Mwanza. The WOP is a collaboration between MWAUWASA and the Dutch Water Organisation, targeting improvement of water operator performance through technical assistance in various areas, ranging from organisational to financial and technical topics.
You will provide technical expertise in the application of GIS and hydraulic modelling for water distribution network assessment and design, and provide training and support to relevant MWAUWASA staff. You will be part of the WOP team, consisting of other experts with different specialisations.
Responsibilities
- Update, maintain, and refine GIS models for the water distribution network.
- Update and refine hydraulic models using EPANET to support system analysis and planning.
- Apply GIS and hydraulic modelling tools to improve understanding and performance of the water distribution network.
- Support project implementation through GIS and hydraulic modelling inputs, including network design and optimization, Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and other water system improvement activities.
- Support the design, establishment, and performance monitoring of District Metered Areas (DMAs).
- Train MWAUWASA staff in the application and practical use of GIS tools (ArcGIS and QGIS).
- Train MWAUWASA staff in hydraulic modelling techniques and applications.
- Provide ongoing technical support and capacity building to ensure sustainable use of GIS and hydraulic models within MWAUWASA.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Requirements
- At least four (4) years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the water sector.
- Proven hands-on experience in applying GIS tools (ArcGIS and QGIS) within the water sector.
- Proven hands-on experience in hydraulic modelling using EPANET for water distribution systems.
