General Manager-Finance
Summary
The General Manager – Finance is responsible for overseeing the Bank’s Finance function in line with established professional standards, policies, and procedures. The role provides strategic and operational leadership on all financial matters, ensuring sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and sustainable profitability. The position works closely with the Managing Director to continuously strengthen the Bank’s financial position and support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Strategic planning and budgeting
- Coordinate the planning, preparation and monitoring of the bank’s strategic business plan.
- Develop, cascade and monitor the implementation of financial strategies and activity plans aligned to the overall bank strategy.
- Performance management
- Develop and implement performance measures that support the Bank’s strategic direction
- Champion the achievement of revenue targets on interest income, fees and commissions through continuous monitoring of business and profitability performance.
- Audit, compliance and risk management
- Provide strategic support to business units during audits conducted by regulatory authorities and external auditors.
- Review audit findings and recommendations and ensure adherence to internal and external policies to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee compliance with prudential and International Financial Reporting Standards and Practices.
- Participate in credit risk, market risk, and liquidity risk management processes to safeguard the Bank’s financial stability
- Financial reporting and Analysis
- Prepare, present, and interpret financial reports for Management, the Board of Directors, and relevant stakeholders.
- Supervise the preparation of all Bank’s reports and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Manage communication with the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders on financial matters.
- Financial operations and control
- Oversee the recording of financial transactions in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strengthen internal controls through effective revenue and expenditure management processes that promote performance and accountability.
- Provide financial analysis and guidance to support management decisions, including cost-benefit analysis of investment and financing proposals.
- Taxation and regulatory compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely tax planning, filing and compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Leadership and People management
- Train, mentor, and manage the performance of the Finance team to enhance productivity and accountability.
- Provide leadership, feedback, and motivation to staff in line with the Bank’s policies and values.
- Other duties
- Undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the Managing Director.
Education and Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CPA).
- Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; knowledge of accounting software.
- Fluency in oral and written English (French is an added advantage).
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Knowledge of Accounting (general, banking, analytical, etc.)
- Knowledge of Banking Regulations
- Knowledge of markets and financial instruments
- Knowledge of the Banking application (IGOR)
- Knowledge of foreign exchange regulations
- Mastery of market risks, liquidity, and contingency plan procedures
- Knowledge of trading and negotiation techniques
- Knowledge of the prudential framework
- Knowledge of Financial Analysis
- Budget development & management
- Mastery of cash management tools
- Mastery of asset/liability management procedures
Requirements
- Minimum five years of post-qualification experience, with two years at senior management level.
- Proven track record in financial management, audits, compliance, and performance management.
